1 GPM Ultraviolet (Sterilizer) Instructions
By1. When the UV unit is installed in a horizontal position, the direction for the water flow can be either to the left or to the right ~ no preference.
2. When the UV is installed in a vertical position, the water flow Must be up; ie the water must enter the lower fitting and flow upward and exit the top fitting. You can position the electrical connection end of the UV unit either up or down to meet your electrical outlet, but the water must flow upward.
UV Lamp Installation/Replacement Instructions for 1 GPM UV Unit
Caution: Prior to performing any work on the disinfection system, always disconnect the power supply first.
UV Lamp INSTALLATION:
To install a new lamp, first remove the lamp from its protective packaging, being careful not to touch the lamp glass itself. Obtain electrical connectors and attach to each end of UV Bulb pins. Then carefully insert the lamp into the reactor vessel (actually inside the quartz sleeve). Insert the lamp fully into the chamber. Install black protective cover over the glass sleeve nut. Then plug into electrical source.
UV Lamp REPLACEMENT:
To replace the lamp, there is NO need to disconnect the system from the water supply, or to drain the water from the reactor chamber DO NOT USE WATER DURING THIS PROCEDURE. Lamp replacement is a quick and simple procedure requiring no special tools. The UV lamp should be replaced after 5,000 hours (for a 1 GPM unit) of continuous operation to ensure adequate disinfection.
Disconnect main power source and allow the unit to power down for 30 sec. Remove black protective cover and lamp from the reactor chamber being careful not to angle bulb as you remove it. Disconnect electrical connectors from each end of bulb pins. Avoid touching the lamp on the glass portion. Handling the lamp at the ceramic ends is acceptable, however if you must touch the lamp glass, please use gloves or a soft cloth.
Quartz Sleeve Replacement:
To remove the quartz sleeve first remove the UV lamp as outlined above then perform the following steps:
· Shut off water supply and drain all lines.
· Remove the lowest connection on the disinfection system and drain the UV chamber (use a small bucket under the unit to prevent a spill).
· Remove sleeve retaining nut from the reactor chamber (do not allow quartz sleeve to fall).
· Carefully remove o-ring from the quartz sleeve. Remove quartz sleeve carefully from chamber.
· Install new quartz sleeve in the UV chamber.
· Wet the o-ring and slide onto the quartz sleeve and reassemble the retaining nut (hand tight is sufficient).
· Re-tighten all connections. Turn on water slowly and check for leaks.
· Re-install the UV lamp and lamp connector as per UV Lamp replacement instructions previously.
· Plug in ballast and verify the POWER-ON LED light is illuminated on ballast
